Background Profile
Chris Morgan Ochogwu, born on May 25, 1978 in the red dust of Otukpo is from Ipole-Igwu, Orokam in Ogbadibo LGA, Benue State, Nigeria. He is the first born of nine children, born to Christian and Regina Ochogwu.
Chris didn’t have it all handed to him as a child he was born into a family which didn’t have wealth Growing up he had to hawk fruits as early as seven o clock just earn a living, he did this before going to school.
His family where members of catholic church where he first encountered the holy spirit and he described it as an unusual encounter. He learnt how to play the piano from a pharmacist who had a shop close to his home.
Chris’s upbringing was all about God. He grew up in a Godly environment, his mother would always tell him to run away from the things of the world. While growing up, his life revolved around market, school, church and the house.
He’s married to Queen Eunice, who is also a music minister and they are blessed with 2 sons, Samuel and Caleb, and they reside in Abuja.
Musical Career
Chris joined the Charismatic band and there he learnt how to play the drum, bass guitar and then the lead guitar. That was how he grew up building myself musically. He started writing his songs at the age of 15.
At age 15, he had a vision when he saw himself singing with a very mighty microphone. While singing, he would see a mighty hand holding a net and pulling people inside. He saw God giving me a net and told me that each time I sing, that is what will happen.
It continued till the age of 16 when he went to Lagos with a certain man of God who wanted him for a music directing job in FESTAC Town. That was how he continued until the potential which God deposited in him began to spring up until he heard the voice of God saying that he should go out and engulf the face of the earth with the spirit of worship. Singing the song, stomping the beat, sharing the love and saving some souls – that was the vision statement God gave him. When he wrote the song Arabaribiti in 2006, it was the rave of the moment; in fact, it was in the mouth of all and sundry. Chris believes the reason God called him to embark on this journey is that there is a vacuum in the heart of man that no one can fill except worship. According to Chris God called him to reconcile men to Him through worship.
Chris unique style of worship has influenced and impacted many and sundry from all works of life. He is an internationally recognized prophetic worship leader with an amazing humility, a man who passionately loves God and loves people. He is playing out the script of his life with integrity, and a huge unusual dose of God’s power and presence. Chris truly practices what he sings and preaches.
Few days after Apostle Johnson Suleman endorsed him as Nigeria’sbest gospel musician, he returned from the Raw Miracle Festival in South Africa to take the award of Best Gospel Artiste of the year 2016 in an event organised by the Prestigious Peace Ambassador Agency as they mark their 5th anniversary.
