Born over four decades ago, Gospel Artiste Sammie Okposo hails from Isoko in Delta State. He was born on 30th May 1971 in Delta State. Sammie was born into a Christian home his father was an elder in the church while his mom was a deaconess, he was a regular church goer. He started playing the piano at a young age of 10 and later evolved to one of the pillars of gospel music in Nigeria.
Growing up for Sammie wasn’t the usual as he wasn’t born into a rich home he had to face struggles and at some point in his life almost got involved in armed robbery. Originally Sammie’s parents where not in support of his decision to become a musician but as they saw the God given talent of their son they came around. According to Sammie his father’s last words to him where I’m proud of you.
Sammie has been happily married to Ozioma Sammie Okposo for over five years now.
Musical Career
Okposo’s music career started in 1992 when he joined the Nigerian movie industry as a sound track producer and later ventured into full music production. He is credited for producing hit songs for the biggest names in the Nigerian music scene.
Okposo is a United Nations Youth Ambassador for World Peace.
In 2000 he took the African music scene to another level with the release of his debut album, titled Unconditional Love. The hit track of the album, “Welu Welu”, gained a lot of local and international popularity.
In 2004, Okposo was invited to perform at the Martin Luther King Day and July 4th Independence day celebration respectively by the American Ambassador to Nigeria.
Okposo with his 12-piece band “D X Generation” are labelled as one of the most electrifying and inspiring groups in Africa. His SOPP live concerts have become a favorite of music lovers globally.
His album, The Statement, was co-produced by ten-time Grammy Award-winning producer Kevin Bond.
He has featured in concerts with prominent artists such as Donnie Mcclurkin, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, Deitrick Haddon, Jonathan Nelson, Micah Stampley, Ron Kenoly, Cece Winans, John Legend, Kirk Franklin, Don Moen, Jessy Dickson, Nicole Mullen, Maxi Priest, Shaggy, Missy Elliot, Benjamin Dube, Judith Sephuma, Sonnie Badu, Uche Double-Double, Lionel Peterson.
